LightScribe
CD-R and DVD-R is a special type of digital media that can be labeled using optical lasers in a drive. Why is LightScribe technology so popular? Many consumers like the convenience of not having to print with a separate printer or apply a sticker label. With LightScribe media, you can burn the disc and label it all at once!

Special media and drives are required to make LightScribe technology work, but they will work on any desktop or laptop computer for your convenience. The user first puts the disc in the drive and copies the data onto the disc as usual. Then, they flip the disc over and print the disc! With these two easy steps, the user has a fully printed disc.

LightScribe labels are monochromatic (a single color). The discs themselves are gold, and the images are in shades of grey. Although they don’t work in full color, they produce sharp images with very high resolution. Different colors are now also available, but these produce monochromatic images as well. In the future, LightScribe plans to apply its technology to full color printing.

LightScribe labels can be printed several times with the same image. The laser aligns the image itself while spinning the disc at high speed, so the user doesn’t have to line it up. Repeated prints increase the contrast in a complex image.

We provide LightScribe discs and drives for our clients; if you’re interested in this technology, please contact us.
